More and more hunters are discovering the magic of wild turkey hunting. Turkeys are the largest upland game bird found in North America. Not only does turkey hunting allow you to be in the woods during springtime, but its probably the most exciting type of hunting you’ll ever do. It pays to be observant during deer season. That flock of turkeys you saw while deer hunting will give you a good idea of where to hunt them in the spring.

Scout the area closely, look for areas where turkeys feed, scratch, and roost. Learn to use different types of calls, including the box, slate, and mouth calls. Practice your calling techniques often.

If you’re new to turkey hunting, you might consider going a couple of times at first with a veteran hunter who knows the birds and their habits.

Watch, listen and learn where to setup, what kind of calls to make and how often you should call.
