Quail Hunting Tips

Nothing beats a day spent quail hunting and here are some great tips for you. When your dog locks into a point, treat every point like it was a covey.

Be ready for delayed or staggered covey rises because the birds may be scattered. Reload your shotgun before you take a step, and be ready. Unless you have flushed a covey and are following single birds, there will almost always be one more bird.

Quail live on the edges between different habitat types. Coveys are likely to be in the same places year after year and they usually have the same escape routes. Most of the bird hunting in the United States occurs on private land.

Obtain permission to hunt in advance of opening day, treat the landowner as you would like to be treated, and remember him or her in the off season.
