Anyone who's been following the NAFC`s annual Catch & Release Contest knows the face and reputation of Steven vonBrandt. After all, the Delaware Life Member has been involved in the Catch & Release Contest since its beginning. Not only that, vonBrandt`s success as a guide and tournament angler has placed him in the spotlight of many newspapers, websites and even Bass Pro Shops and Redman outdoor catalogs.
It's a well-deserved reputation. Since 1996, he has entered 568 trophy fish in the contest, ranging from lunker largemouths to huge chain pickerel. This level of success has placed him among the top anglers for each year. He continued this trend through 2002, entering 99 fish from seven species, and ranking seventh in total Angler of the Year points.
Although he catches a wide range of trophy-caliber fish, vonBrandt's specialty is largemouth bass. In 2002 alone, he entered 74 bucketmouths, his largest being a 24-inch brute from a Delaware pond.
His advice for fellow members is simple. "Stay on the water all the time, and learn all you can about the fish and waters you`re fishing," Steve says. He also encourages anglers, especially in heavily populated areas like his Mid-Atlantic home, to do whatever it takes to fish unpressured waters-or low pressure times of day.
"We spend a lot of time fishing at night," Steve says. "In the Northeast, that's something a lot of people just don't do." vonBrandt says that's when he catches his biggest bass.

Steve will be competing in local, team, and BFL Events in early 2007, which will be his next to last year fishing on a regular full-time tour, afterwards he will be promoting the fishing industry and his tackle business through seminars and videos, representing several sponsors full time listed below, through shows and articles.
