It is the deepest and most treacherous river gorge in America.   With it’s east rim towering more than 8,000 feet over the very river that carved its existence, the canyon offers pain and misery for those who enter into its shadows.   Guarded by seven devils, it has a heart that is unforgiving, and a soul that is filled with treachery.   Although deceptively beautiful, one would believe that the cold blood of a Snake truly runs though the heart of “Hells Canyon”.

To hunt the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area speaks more about your character than it does your equipment.   What few provisions you take will be carried on your back.   Any extra weight will only mean drudgery as you make your way up the nearly vertical walls of the canyon.   If you succeed it will be a testament to your physical abilities… and your stubborn nature.   What you take from Hells Canyon will be a sobering respect for the land… and a divine understanding of the truth behind this canyon’s namesake.

If it was easy… we couldn’t call it “hunting”.   It would simply be the loathsome act of “killing”.   And if in fact “The true hunter counts his achievement in proportion to the effort involved”… then you are truly in for the “hunt of a lifetime”, because for the next two weeks you will be hunting in Purgatory.

“On Foot Films” has created a hunting adventure that truly goes against the grain of today’s Outdoor film industry.   Tag along as brothers, Joe Mitchell and Jaysen Dunnavant travel far beyond the last traces of civilization, on a “Do it Yourself” hunt for elk, in Oregon’s Hells Canyon National Recreation Area.   With scenery and terrain so extreme that at times it boggles the imagination… This movie clutches the very essence of hunting the American West.

You will not find an organized film crew in this hunt.   There will be no “team” of seasoned callers, bugling from the dark timber at your back, and you will not have the luxury of hired hands to pack out your meat.   Your grit, determination, and a good pair of boots will prove to be more valuable than all of these things combined.

Operating on a blue-collar budget, Joe and Jaysen take the viewer on a workingman’s hunt into some of the most remote and rugged wilderness found anywhere in North America.   Hunting solely on public lands, Joe & Jaysen pursue Rocky Mountain elk and dispel the myth that record class bulls are only taken on high-dollar, “ guided” canned hunts, that seem so prevalent in today’s Outdoor film industry.

On Foot Films’ simple approach to the reality of the hunt is truly refreshing in an industry that seems to be more concerned with the “Quantity of Kills” than it is with the “Quality of the Hunt”.   This movie typifies the spirit of the everyday, middle class, working American hunter who dreams of the chance to hunt trophy class animals that are truly magnificent.   This is more than just another “hunting movie”… this is an actual “Hunt”... Filmed in actual time… As it happens…   With nothing staged or rehearsed.

For those who long for a hunt that is truly remarkable… “2 Weeks In Purgatory” offers the unashamed truth about hunting on public lands, proving that a dream hunt isn’t always found in another State.   But rather… a hunt like this only requires grit, bull-headed determination, and the willingness to pursue a dream that may be found just over the next horizon.   Oh…   And don’t forget yer boots!
